Press reports do not reflect the facts of the actual public sale of tickets to the Springsteen shows at the IZODCenter. Over 16,500 tickets were available to the general public each night and fans were given an opportunity to get them, unlike with many of the most popular events in the country.
Below are the actual numbers for tonight's show supplied to the Star Ledger last Tuesday morning. 85% of the total goes to the general public and that can increase as the February 2 numbers were just early estimates. The various categories of “holds” are logistical necessities and standard industry practice.
The assertion that Springsteen held 2,000 tickets for each show is just patently false.
When you see "tech holds" that means there are tickets blocked until the stage is actually built. When it is in and the sightlines are established seats with a view are put back on public sale.
Most importantly, everyone who filed a complaint with Consumer Affairs about Ticketmaster was given the opportunity to purchase tickets because of the tireless efforts of our Arena staff and the Division of Consumer Affairs. Finally of course when it is reported that only 6000 "people" are going to get tickets they say of course that is true because they purchase 2 4 or 6 apiece.
