Planner

The NJSEA seeks motivated candidates for the position of Planner to assist with the preparation of redevelopment plans and amendments, administrative amendments to regulations, public notices, recommendations with respect to variances and special exceptions and Commission resolutions. In addition, candidates will review development applications and enforce District zoning regulations. Candidates should have a working knowledge of New Jersey’s affordable housing requirements. This position also involves site inspections, and, as such, candidates should be able to climb, traverse rough terrain, and withstand exposure to inclement weather. Position involves interaction with the public, other professionals, and public officials regarding projects in the District and District regulations.

A Bachelor’s degree in Planning or related field is required. PP/AICP preferred. Valid driver’s license is required. Qualified candidates should have at least 3 years of relevant prior work experience. Senior Engineer

The NJSEA seeks motivated candidates for the position of Senior Engineer to assist with initiatives of the Authority. Duties and responsibilities include technical reviews of development applications, including storm water reviews, and enforcement of District zoning regulations. Candidates will be responsible for drafting variance and special exception recommendations. This position also involves site inspections, and, as such, candidates should be able to climb, traverse rough terrain, and withstand exposure to inclement weather. Position involves interaction with the public, other professionals, and public officials regarding projects in the District and District regulations.

Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Master degree a plus, with a minimum of 4 years of experience in the field of civil engineering with an emphasis on site design/development and hydrology. Assistant Traffic Signal Systems/ITS Engineer

The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA) is a state regulatory agency responsible for zoning and planning, as well as the oversight and management of a transportation planning district, within the 32-square-mile Hackensack Meadowlands District in northern New Jersey.

Primary duties of the Assistant Traffic Signal Systems/ITS Engineer include:

  • • Overseeing the operation and maintenance of all elements of the District’s Meadowlands Adaptive Signal System for Traffic Reduction (MASSTR), inclusive of all detection, communication, and adaptive systems.
  • • Supervising and monitoring MASSTR-related servers, software applications, and workstations.
  • • Performing field inspections and other duties in support of installation, deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of MASSTR and other Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) projects.
  • • Overseeing and directing consultants and contractors to meet NJSEA requirements.
  • • Coordinating and communicating effectively with Federal, State, County, and local stakeholders.
  • • Providing technical support related to ITS projects.
  • • Identifying ITS project performance measurement metrics and analyzing performance of all systems.
  • • Establishing and implementing MASSTR database administration maintenance and disaster recovery plans, including backups and replication.
  • • Improving and maintaining the MASSTR equipment inventory system, including tracking assets and equipment life expectancies.
  • • Performing acceptance and annual testing as a part of installation and preventive maintenance procedures.
  • • Interpreting electrical, traffic, and wiring diagram plans for diagnosing MASSTR and ITS equipment.
  • • Supervising and supporting special projects and initiatives of the NJSEA under the Meadowlands District Transportation Plan (MDTP)

BS Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Associate Degree in a related field is required, along with 4+ years of experience in traffic signal and ITS deployment projects. Knowledge of electronics and electrical wiring theory and principals is required. Knowledge and understanding of traffic engineering principles, HCM, MUTCD, AASHTO and ITE manuals desired. Proficiency in AutoCAD/MicroStation and experience with traffic analysis and simulation (e.g., HCS, Synchro) are a plus, along with GIS applications related to transportation and safety analyses. Certifications in network routing and switching, fiber optic and/or wireless communications are also a plus. Applicants must be self-motivated and possess strong verbal, written, organizational and analytical skills. This position requires the ability to climb, traverse rough terrain, lift moderate weight, and withstand exposure to inclement weather.

Applicant must be a resident of New Jersey, or be willing to relocate within one year of employment.

Deputy Director of Solid Waste

The New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority (NJSEA) seeks a Civil Engineer for the position of Deputy Director of Solid Waste.  Primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • • Manage activities related to Solid Waste Operations including technical, financial and administrative functions
  • • Supervise numerous leachate pumping stations and pretreatment systems and solid waste landfills, including hands-on field work
  • • Provide engineering design and participate in project management and contract administration
  • • Supervise departmental personnel

Several of the job requirements are:

  • • BS in Civil Engineering required, along with PE license
  • • Minimum of 5 years of experience in various aspects of solid waste facilities design and engineering
  • • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Auto CAD required, along with the ability to use standard office equipment and engineering software
  • • Must possess a proficient working knowledge of NJDEP regulations
  • • Experience in the design and operation of pumping stations a plus, along with basic knowledge of structural engineering for review of structural drawings prepared by others
