Semipalmated Sandpipers

Nature Walk
Mill Creek Marsh, Secaucus
Sunday, Aug. 16, 10 a.m. to noon

The Bergen County Audubon Society leads a guided walk of the Mill Creek Marsh Trail. The marsh is a great place to see Snowy Egrets, sandpipers and other avian species.

Meet at the trail entrance, off the back parking lot of Bob’s Discount Furniture, 3 Mill Creek Drive, Secaucus.

Evening Nature Walk
DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst
Wednesday, Aug. 26, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Experience Richard W. DeKorte Park on a special, guided evening walk led by the Bergen County Audubon Society. You’ll learn about the park’s history and the abundant array of birds that inhabit the urban environmental treasure.

Semi-palmated Plover

Nature Walk
Mill Creek Marsh, Secaucus
Wednesday, Sept. 2, 10 a.m. to noon

The Bergen County Audubon Society leads a guided walk on the Mill Creek Marsh Trail, where they expect to see many shorebirds such as Semi-palmated plovers.

Yellow-crowned Night Heron

Evening Walk
DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst
Thursday, Sept. 10, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Enjoy a peaceful walk through DeKorte Park with the Bergen County Audubon Society. Keep an eye out for egrets, Yellow-crowned Night Herons and more.

Nature Walk
DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst

The Bergen County Audubon Society guides a walk through DeKorte Park, an amazing Meadowlands natural resource. Keep your eyes peeled for egrets, Osprey and other raptors.

Waterthrush

Nature Walk
Losen Slote Creek Park, Little Ferry
Wednesday, Sept. 23, 10 a.m. to noon

Join the Bergen County Audubon Society as they lead a walk through Losen Slote Creek Park, one of the last remaining low-lying forests in the Meadowlands. Be on the lookout for warblers, Wood thrush and Waterthrush.

Trails may be muddy; boots are highly recommended. Park in the lot adjacent to the soccer field on Mehrhof Road.

Great Egret

Meadowlands Birding Festival
DeKorte Park and Meadowlands Environment Center, Lyndhurst
Sunday, Oct. 4, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (rain or shine)

All ages event includes guided walks, speakers, a live raptor show, information tables, kids’ activities, music and more. 

DeKorte Park and the Meadowlands Environment Center are located at 2 DeKorte Park Plaza, Lyndhurst.

Information About Nature Walks

The Bergen County Audubon Society leads year-round, free, guided nature walks. The family-friendly walks take place in parks and natural areas throughout the Meadowlands District. Guides bring spotting scopes so that participants can see wildlife up-close, including some of the more than 300 bird species that have been identified in the District, including three-dozen on the State Threatened, Endangered, and Species of Special Concern Lists. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and cameras.
