Losen Slote Creek Park, Little Ferry

Join the Bergen County Audubon Society as they lead a walk through Losen Slote Creek Park. Be on the lookout for warblers, Wood thrush and Waterthrush while traversing one of the last remaining low-lying forested areas in the Meadowlands.
Trails may be muddy; boots are highly recommended. Park in the lot adjacent to the soccer field on Mehrhof Road.

Native Plant Day
DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst

Celebrate the brilliant native plants of DeKorte Park and learn how they help birds and pollinators, maintain healthy soil, contribute to biodiversity and more. The event features native plant walks, presentations and information tables.
Native Plant Day is hosted by New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority and the Bergen County Audubon Society.

Let the Bergen County Audubon Society guide you on the Mill Creek Marsh Trail. Be on the lookout for Snowy Egrets and Red-tailed Hawks at this great place for birdwatching.

Mill Creek Point Park and Schmidt’s Woods, Secaucus
Wednesday, July 1, 10 a.m. to noon
Join the Bergen County Audubon Society on a guided bird walk looking for eagles and terns over the Hackensack River from the vantage point of Mill Creek Point Park. You’re also likely to see thrushes and warblers while traversing nearby Schmidt’s Woods.

Native Plant and Butterfly Walk
DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst
Wednesday, July 15, 10 a.m. to noon
Butterflies and native flora abound at DeKorte Park during the summer. Guides from the Bergen County Audubon Society will introduce you to the many species to be seen throughout the park, including milkweed and bee balm plants, and majestic raptors and egrets. Return to the park with newfound knowledge for Butterfly Day on Sunday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.!

Butterfly Day

Butterfly Day is back! The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority and the Bergen County Audubon Society present a family-friendly day of butterfly walks and talks with a costume contest and games and crafts for the kids.

Information About Nature Walks
The Bergen County Audubon Society leads year-round, free, guided nature walks. The family-friendly walks take place in parks and natural areas throughout the Meadowlands District. Guides bring spotting scopes so that participants can see wildlife up-close, including some of the more than 300 bird species that have been identified in the District, including three-dozen on the State Threatened, Endangered, and Species of Special Concern Lists. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and cameras.
