Sports Complex

Created in 1971, the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority transformed the Meadowlands marshlands into a world-class destination for major events with the development of the Meadowlands Sports Complex. The Complex opened in 1976 with the Meadowlands Racetrack and Giants Stadium, and has been the cornerstone of sports, entertainment, and economic activity in New Jersey for five decades. In 1981, the addition of Brendan Byrne Arena further expanded the complex’s role as a major entertainment destination, hosting professional sports teams, concerts, and global events.

Today, the Complex is anchored by MetLife Stadium (home to the New York Giants and New York Jets), the American Dream Mall, as well as the Meadowlands Racetrack/FanDuel. The Meadowlands Sports Complex generates significant economic impact for New Jersey by creating jobs, attracting millions of visitors annually, and supporting local businesses and tourism. As one of the nation’s premier destinations for sports and entertainment, it continues to showcase New Jersey on the world stage while serving as a hub for community engagement and regional pride.

The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA) holds the land lease for and provides for the ongoing operation of the Meadowlands Sports Complex, which includes the Meadowlands Arena, MetLife Stadium, the Meadowlands Racetrack and American Dream. The Sports Complex houses the Meadowlands Fire Departmant and Emergency Medical Services, and the Internet Technology, Engineering and Site Operations Departments. The NJSEA is also responsible for the Complex’s New Jersey Transit Rail Station operations and maintenance.
