Adopted in 2004 by the then-New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC), the NJMC Master Plan was the first new Master Plan for the District in more than 30 years. It called for the preservation of 8,400 acres of wetlands and open space while providing for the revitalization of polluted or blighted parcels into economic and community-oriented growth. The 2004 NJMC Master Plan was superseded by the Hackensack Meadowlands District Master Plan Update 2020 (February 2020).
