LEED

Sustainability in the Meadowlands

The NJSEA promotes the use of sustainable building practices by example and by offering incentives to companies and developers whose projects meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards.

The NJSEA Center for Environmental and Scientific Education (Science Center) was the first public building in New Jersey to obtain LEED Platinum Certification – the highest rating, from the U.S. Green Building Council. The Science Center’s sustainable features include rooftop solar panels, recycled building materials, and energy-efficient heating and lighting systems.

Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED is one of a number of sustainable development guidelines that provide building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable Green Building design, construction, operations, and maintenance solutions.

• 30 percent refund of required zoning fees for Platinum certification
• 25 percent refund of required zoning fees for Gold certification
• 20 percent refund of required zoning fees for Silver certification
• 15 percent refund of required zoning fees for certification
• Priority review of applications for development
• Density bonuses and additions.
